The lighting strategy for this pavilion in Oegstgeest was defined by its dramatic architectural volume and high sloping ceiling. The primary challenge was to illuminate the expansive vertical space while maintaining a sense of human-scale intimacy at the dining level.

The design utilizes a layered approach to transform the building into a soft, glowing lantern at night. By grazing the timber ceiling with warm, indirect light, the structure radiates a gentle luminescence to the outside, while focused accents provide a warm, cozy ambiance for guests inside. This balance ensures that the grand architectural scale feels inviting rather than imposing, creating a refined evening environment that highlights the natural beauty of the timber construction.
